Financial assistance programs from the Ville de Montréal

If the residential property that you are buying requires renovation work, check if you are eligible for the financial assistance programs offered by the Ville de Montréal for renovations:

Major residential renovation
The Major Residential Renovation program, whose goal is the complete renovation of a residential building, provides financial assistance to owners:

  • For the renovation of all components of their building in need of repair;
  • In certain cases, for the demolition and reconstruction of their building.

The cost of the work to renovate and upgrade the building in compliance with applicable codes and by-laws must total at least $15,000 on average per unit.

Renovation à la carte
The Renovation à la Carte program provides financial assistance to property owners for the renovation or replacement of certain exterior or interior components of their residential or mixed-use building.

Home Ownership Program
If the home you are planning to buy is your first plex and your household has at least one child under 18, you could also be eligible for the Home Ownership Program and benefit from a refund of your “welcome tax” when you purchase a duplex (two above-ground dwelling units) or triplex (three above-ground dwelling units).

Mentioned for information only, this program can be amended or cancelled without prior notice. We recommend that you verify its validity with the Direction de l’habitation de la Ville de Montréal (514 872-4630 or ville.montreal.qc.ca/housing).
